Saturday 3rd XI

Saturday 3rd XI (Knots) Season Review 2015

Only a year after gaining promotion to the Second Division of the Worcestershire County League, the Knots suffered the indignity of relegation, after only two victories and 15 defeats during the season, four games being abandoned. We gained just 130 points, 55 behind Enville, with just Malvern below us, compared to the champions Cookley's massive total of 358 points.

However, six games were lost by fewer than 20 runs or by one wicket; there were narrow defeats at Cookley and Feckenham; and we lost by four runs to Enville. If we had won that match and another one, we might have remained in the division.

No batsmen reached the divisional averages, not even the persevering captain Jamie Hall; whereas both Alex Reynolds and Zahir Zirab capured 18 wickets: Reynolds at 25.4 apiece, with a top performance of 5-85; and Zirab at 32.7 each, with a best haul of 3-38. Wicketkeeper Michael Perkins captured 15 victims, 13 of them caught, the fifth highest tally of victims in the division.

Abu Abdullah hit three half-centuries and bowled well before joining the 2nd XI; Tim Matthews, Karan Gangurde and Alex Lane all showed much promise; and Kit Smith (seam) and Sarah (spin) both contributed bravely, Sarah bowling for a time with a broken finger.

Jamie is very much looking forward to next season's challenge.
